Birchview Elementary

  

Liberty Children’s Art Project (LCAP) in partnership with Birchview Elementary in Ishpeming, Michigan has held four  “All Day Art Day” art enrichment program at this  school.
LCAP hired three artists and an assistant conducting twelve sessions for twelve different classrooms throughout the entire school day. Although teachers emphasized art production these sessions also included art aesthetics (art of different cultures) art criticism (looking closely at works of art) and art history (learning about important artists.)  All children in the school participated using a wide variety of contemporary media and methods. This year the school was studying the country if Italy which we used to inspire some of our lessons.

African Adire Eleko: Patterns in Watercolor Resist

Basquiat Street Art: Collaborative Mural Printmaking

Symmetry in Collage/ Butterfly Wings

Amante Bark Paintings

Notan: Japanese Paper Design

Whimsical spring Trees: Watercolor Experiment

Marc Chagall: Dream World

Franz Marc: Oil Pastel Animal Expressions

Roy Lichtenstein: Self Portrait Print and Paint

Mayan Jaguar Masks: Mixed Media

LCAP served approximately 300 students in this day providing a full day of inspiring art enrichment  for a school which has no art program. This day was generously support by the the Ishpeming Community Foundation,  Birchview Elementary PTO funds and the MCACA/NEA
