Liberty Children’s Art Project (LCAP) in partnership with Wells Township School completed the 5th of our first ‘All Day Art Days’ art enrichment program in fall of 2023 and spring of 2024.
LCAP had a guest artist/certified art teacher conducting three sessions which included all children from the school – grades, k-3rd. Although these sessions emphasized art production these sessions also included art aesthetics (art of different cultures) art criticism (looking closely at works of art) and art history (learning about important artists.) All children in the school participated using a wide variety of contemporary media and methods.

Wells Township School is located 80 miles southwest from Marquette, MI in Arnold, Michigan, an extremely isolated part of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The one school in this district offers classes for elementary students who have little access to the arts due to the isolation of the area. Due to budget cuts in this economically challenged area this school has no elementary art program. These art enrichment classes are vital to the youth of this area allowing them exposure to a creative arts experience taught by art teachers/ working artists. This program was made possible by private donations and the MCACA/NEA.
